two little birds

two little birds, sittin, in a tree
hoppin all around, as happy as can be
singin, and dancin, floatin in the green
they looked at each other, like you looked at me

those little birds don’t know what’s in store
life’s been good to them, but you never can be sure
and they remember a time, upon the forest floor
when they were scared, and alone

they were born in spring you see and summer’s at the fore
the wind back then felt wild and free, life’s an open door
they spread their wings to fly with glee, a moment, they soared
and tumbled down down down down down

darkness — all around
lost now — never found
hear them — on the ground
weeping silently

two little birds, sittin, in a tree
hoppin all around, as happy as can be
singin, and dancin, floatin in the green
they look at each other, like you look at me

those little birds don’t know what’s in store
life’s been good to them, and there’s always room for more
so they remember a time, upon the forest floor
when they were scared and alone

they feel the change of air and leaves, frost upon the shore
they know it’s time to set to sea, to chart a steady course
they spread their wings to fly with glee, together, they soar
into the unknown

how quickly we have grown
into the unknown
